Documenting Business Processes
Croatian Institute of Hydrography conducts hydrographic surveys of the ocean and seabed, publishes official navigation charts, manuals and other information in accordance with international and domestic regulations. This strengthens the orientation of Croatia to the Adriatic and creates additional opportunities for maritime economy development, and the economy in general on the principles of sustainable development. Along with the basic orientation of HHI to sailors, the maritime economy and relevant state administration bodies, its activities are directed at steadily increasing their own level of knowledge and skills of all users of maritime navigational security information.
Difficulties faced by the Institute in their business processes were:
- Issues in tracking the documentation flow
- Difficulties in organization of business and business processes monitoring
- The existence of more unrelated or partially related information systems which require manual data transfer between the systems
- Difficult monitoring of key business parameters due to lack of compatible data from a variety of sources
For the Croatian Institute of Hydrography, we conducted a detailed survey of the current state of the business processes with the aim of proposing a more efficient way of working supported by the new IT system. Since it is a specific activity, the recording of the current situation required detailed interviewing of users and collecting documentation about the processes taking place at the Institute, and conversations with nearly all employees. Our team conducted research and analysis of all processes, carried out an assessment of the current state, and based on the collected information and documentation, provided a solution proposal for the new information system. The ultimate result of the collaboration gave a real picture of the state of business processes and organization within the Institute and the technical specification, which is the basis for the procurement of software solutions.
