Workshop on accessibility of facilities for persons with disabilities

Workshop on accessibility of facilities for persons with disabilities

On Wednesday, 02/19/2020 we participated in the workshop “Accessibility of shopping and catering facilities to persons with disabilities”, organized by the CCC Split County Chamber and the Office of the Ombudsman for Persons with Disabilities at the Marko Marulić City Library in Split. At the workshop, we were introduced to some of the most common problems that people with disabilities encounter, such as stairs at entrances to and within most spaces, and the lack of sanitary facilities for people with disabilities.

Among the speakers was Stipo Margić who introduced the web application liberato.io, which he created with Mijo Matijević and Ivan Ivančević. The purpose of the application is to display an interactive map of the city of Split showing the accessibility of the selected place to persons with disabilities. The content is divided into categories: Sports, Health, Education, Food & Drink, Parking, Culture and Other. The app shows if selected locations have a ramp, a custom toilet, disabled parking spaces, and the number of stairs at the entrance. The view includes the Specific Dietary Food Options when viewing places where food is served.

We were introduced to Stipo’s idea at the beginning of the project and wanted to help. We donated a year of server subscriptions to help make the idea a reality. Our wish was to ease the financial obstacles for the team so they could focus on creating the app. We are proud sponsors of the effort and work of this young man and his colleagues and wish them a lot of success!
